Berthold Hackl – Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Hackl has an over 20 year history of successful business management. He was twice the founding member for new German and European businesses of Pharmacia (now Biacore / GE Healthcare) and grew both into leading players in their fields. Later Mr. Hackl became a member of the core management team that repositioned Stratec Medical (Synthes-Stratec; the word’s largest trauma implant company) for its IPO in 1996 (SWX, today € 10bn market cap). Along the way, he founded one of the first European eHealth ventures (Medical Monitor), gained turnaround and capital markets experience (Eurofins, FSE; Chief Advisor for last successful biotech offering on Neuer Markt in the year 2000). From 2000 until July 2007 Mr. Hackl was Managing Partner of Heidelberg Innovation BSVII.
Mr. Hackl obtained his degree in molecular biology from University of Freiburg and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
Mr. Hackl joined invendo medical as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in August 2007.
Timo Hercegfi – Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Hercegfi has more than 15 years of experience in management of financial operations. He spent several years as a relationship manager in the corporate banking division of Deutsche Bank AG, amongst others in charge of innovative technology companies in the biotechnology and medtech sector. In addition he was also in charge of several turnaround cases and closed numerous financing transactions. Subsequently Mr. Hercegfi joined PricewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant, working as a project leader on a Europe-wide basis.
From 2000 until January 2007 Mr. Hercegfi served as a Partner and CFO at Heidelberg Innovation, a European medical technology-focussed venture capital firm and key investor of invendo medical. From 2003 onwards he was a board member of our company and took on an operating position in February 2007 becoming invendo medical`s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Timo Hercegfi holds a degree in business administration from the University of Cooperative Education Mosbach.
Christoph Schnuerer-Patschan, PhD - Chief Technology Officer
After his graduation and doctorate as a physicist Dr. Schnuerer worked as research associate and postdoc at the Institute for Spectrochemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (ISAS), Dortmund. In 1994 he was one of the founders of LaserSpec Analytik, one of the first venture capital-funded life science companies in Germany, which developed spectrometers for particle analytics based on laser diodes. He was Head of Development, Chief Technology Officer and later on the sole Managing Director of this company. Under his tenure very complex analytical instruments have been developed and brought to market. The company was merged with Atomika Instruments in 1999, of which Dr. Schnuerer also was a Managing Director. This company was sold to FEI Germany, which again was bought by Cameca (Paris) - part of the american AMETEK Group - in 2005. In his last position Dr. Schnuerer acted as Technology and Operations Manager for the German business unit Cameca GmbH. Cameca is a globally leading manufacturer of surface-analytical instruments.
Dr. Schnuerer joined invendo medical in April 2009 as Head of Technical Operations, being in charge of development and manufacturing. Since May 2010 he is the company's Chief Technology Officer. He has more than 15 years of experience in these areas.
John J. Cifarelli - Executive Vice President Global Markets
Mr. Cifarelli has 20+ years of experience in surgical products and medical systems with an outstanding track record managing $600+ MM in sales with increasing profit margins through knowledge of emerging markets. In his roles as VP Sales – Medical Systems and VP/General Manager – Surgical Products at Olympus, he revitalized those businesses and restored profitability. He also gained significant experience in the management of start-ups in the field of GI endoscopy, diagnostics and surgery.
He acted as EVP Sales and Marketing for CDX Laboratories, VP Sales and Marketing for Neoguide Systems, elaborating their N.O.T.E.S. strategy, and VP Sales and Marketing for PEAK Surgical.
Mr. Cifarelli holds a Bachelor of Science of Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY. He joined invendo in July 2009.
